The seventh generation of the Honda Civic was produced from late 2000 to fall 2005. It is the first generation of the Civic to have a diesel engine. At the end of 2003 the series received a facelift .

Body styles

In the seventh generation, the buyer initially had three body styles to choose from: three- and five-door hatchbacks and, from mid-2001, a coupé. The notchback sedan only appeared in Germany with the presentation of the Civic IMA in spring 2004.

Engines

At the market launch in February 2001, two aluminum engines with 1.4-l SOHC petrol engines with 66 kW (90 hp) and a 1.6-l SOHC VTEC petrol engine with 81 kW (110 hp) served as the basic engines.

From January 2002, the three-door model was available for the first time with a 1.7-liter turbo diesel with common rail technology and an output of 74 kW (100 hp). The basis for this engine was an Isuzu engine .

As the most powerful engine variant Honda offered from September 2001 the Civic Type R , with two liters of displacement for the first time i-VTEC and 147 kW (200 hp) at 7,400 min -1 at. Subtle Type R logos, a distinctive honeycomb grille, front and roof spoilers, side skirts and wide, low-profile tires distinguish the Civic Type R from the “civil” three-door model.

In the course of the revision carried out at the end of 2003, the five-door variant was supplemented by a 2-liter engine with 118 kW (160 hp).

In Civic IMA a 1,3-li-DSI engine was offered, which in conjunction with a 144- volt - electric motor operates.

In December 2003 the Civic received a facelift. According to the factory, there were changes to over 5000 parts, but most of them are not externally visible. Noticeable are the revised front bumper and a radiator grille with a honeycomb structure. Furthermore, the Civic received clear glass headlights with projection elements for the low beam and new rear lights. The side indicators, which were previously installed in the fenders, were integrated into the exterior mirrors using LED technology. New materials have been used for the dashboard surfaces and interior fittings. The safety equipment and noise insulation have also been revised. From the facelift onwards, all Civic models were also offered in the new Cosmic Gray Pearl paint color .

By the end of the series, the three-door model was also offered in the special Sport Unlimited and Sport BAR models. These are characterized by extensive special equipment (speedometer based on the Type-R, sports seats, leather sports steering wheel and gear knob, on-board computer , electric windows, electric and heated exterior mirrors, air conditioning, fog lights, Type-R spoiler kit [front, Rear apron, side skirts, optional Type-R rear spoiler], sports exhaust, 16-inch alloy wheels). In addition to the general changes, the five-door range was expanded from May 2004 to include an additional engine variant with a 2.0-liter engine, VSA stability system, 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, partial leather seats and cruise control .
