The Honda Freed is a van that the Japanese automaker Honda has been producing in Sayama since 2008 . The Freed, which is based on the Honda Jazz platform , is the successor to the Honda Mobilio Spike .

The first generation is offered in three different versions: a seven-seat version with individual seats in the second row, an eight-seat version and a variant with five seats. Various handicapped accessible versions are also available.

The Freed has a 1.5-liter engine with 118 hp, which is also used in the Honda Jazz with slightly different performance characteristics.

After the model was initially only available in Japan, it was also released in Indonesia in March 2009. At the local production site in Karawang, the Freed is built with 20 mm more ground clearance than in Japan. This variant is also exported to Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.

Since January 2011 Freeds made in Japan have also been sold to Hong Kong, where, unlike in other export markets, the seven-seater version is also available.

In 2010 the Honda Freed was fifth in the Japanese registration statistics, and in 2011 the model was sixth.

The second generation Freed was introduced in June 2016 and has been on sale in Japan since September 16, 2016. The van is powered either by a 96 kW (131 PS) 1.5-liter gasoline engine or a hybrid drive . All-wheel drive is optionally available for both variants. At the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2019, Honda presented a revised version of the Freed.
