The Honda Accord is a mid-size car from the Japanese car manufacturer Honda . The second generation of this successful vehicle appeared on the German market in autumn 1981 and was sold until the end of 1985.
The concept of the Accord remained unchanged. The dimensions have been increased and the vehicle has been made more comfortable accordingly. The sedan also appeared at the same time as the hatchback model.
The engines were initially taken over from the predecessor. In Japan, there were two engines to choose from right from the start: one with 1.6 l displacement and one with 1.8 l. In the USA and the Arab countries there was only the version with 1.8 l and otherwise only the 1.6 l machine. In Japan and the USA, the CVCC variants of the engines were used because of the exhaust gas regulations . These engines were combined either with a manual five-speed gearbox or with the three-speed Hondamatic .
The Accord was (together with the Honda Vigor ) the first Honda vehicles with the electro gyrocator , the world's first ( inertial ) navigation system available for cars .
After new engines with three-valve technology were installed from autumn 1983 due to changed emissions standards, Honda took this as an opportunity to make some further changes. Among other things, the Accord received a smooth front section and the automatic transmission a fourth stage. A technically identical model with luxurious equipment, the Vigor , was also offered on the Japanese market .
