The Acura RDX is an SUV from the Honda- owned Acura brand . The vehicle was introduced in 2006 as a smaller addition to the Acura MDX . The model is built in the Marysville plant of Honda of America Mfg.

Despite the visual proximity and the comparable dimensions, the RDX is only related to the Honda CR-V to a limited extent . Acura also emphasizes that the RDX is not a crossover , as it is technically not based on a car.

The vehicle of the first generation was only offered in North America, whereby the drive with a comparatively small 2.3-liter turbo engine was rather unusual for local conditions - the competing models Infiniti EX and Lexus RX have a 3.5-liter in the basic version - suction motor . However, this had no effect on consumption. The production model was formally presented at NYIAS 2006 after a study called the RD-X Concept had previously been shown at NAIAS 2005 in Detroit .

The RDX is optionally equipped with an all - wheel drive called Acura SH-AWD , with which the power can be dynamically distributed both from front to back and between the sides. With this system, the wheel on the outside of the curve is also accelerated a little more when cornering. The interior of the car is standard for its class.

For the 2010 model year introduced in August 2009, the RDX was visually slightly revised and adapted to the then current design of all Acura models with the grill with an appearance reminiscent of steel. In the course of this revision, the length of the vehicle also increased slightly. However, there were no technical innovations.

In April 2012 the second generation of the SUV came onto the market, a concept vehicle of which was shown at the NAIAS 2012, and the production version of which was formally presented for the first time at the Chicago Auto Show 2012. In 2015 it received a facelift for the 2016 model year. The dimensions of the vehicle have hardly changed. What is new, however, is a three-liter six-cylinder gasoline engine, which is intended exclusively for the Chinese market.
