The eighth generation Honda Civic went on sale in Germany on January 14, 2006. It was available with various gasoline engines as well as with a diesel engine developed by Honda .
The appearance is based very much on a concept version that was shown in spring 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show . In 2006 the car was awarded the “best of the best” prize at the Red Dot Design Awards .
On May 20, 2006, German sales of the new Civic Hybrid (successor to the Civic IMA) began. The further developed hybrid version now has an output of 85 kW (115 PS) instead of 61 kW (83 PS).
A good year after the launch of the five-door, the Civic series was supplemented by the two three-door Type R (German sales start March 31, 2007) and Type S (May 12, 2007).
The European Civic versions were built at the Honda plant in Swindon, England. In November 2007, the millionth Civic rolled off the production line there.
In autumn 2007 the security system of the Civic was optimized. The single-stage front airbags have been replaced by two-stage airbags, the side airbags have also been enlarged and the timing of the belt tensioners has been adjusted. For the 2008 model year, the attachment points of the front floor mats were also moved from the seat frame to the floor carpet, which is why other floor mat sets are available from this model year.
In autumn 2008 the Civic was revised. It received different front aprons and headlights as well as modified rear lights.
In Canada, the model is also offered as the Acura CSX , where it replaces the Acura EL . The Acura CSX is largely identical to the four-door Honda Civic with notchback offered outside of North America. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, only the Civic Hybrid is available from this model series . The Honda Civic models offered in North America and China have a slightly modified headlight and taillight configuration and a slightly simpler interior.
In September 2011, the ninth generation of the Civic was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt.
