The Acura MDX is a five-door SUV from the Japanese Honda luxury subsidiary Acura . In the manufacturer's range of models, it is placed above the Acura RDX .

The MDX was introduced in 2000 as the successor to the SLX , which was based on the Isuzu Trooper . The Honda Pilot has been available on the basis of the MDX since 2002 and differs only slightly in design. In Japan, the model was offered as the Honda MDX since 2003 . The only engine offered was a 3.5-liter V6-cylinder VTEC gasoline engine with a maximum output of 179 kW (240 hp ) initially , in model year 2003 with 194 kW (260 hp) and from model year 2004 with 198 kW (265 hp).
Awards
In 2001 the MDX won the North American Truck of the Year Award . It was also named “Best Luxury SUV of the year” by Car and Driver magazine .

The second generation of the seven-seater MDX followed in 2006 (concept study presented: NYIAS 2006), which was one of the best-selling vehicles in its vehicle class in North America. The 2nd generation of the Honda Pilot followed in 2009 . In order to be able to compete with vehicles like the BMW X5 or the Mercedes M-Class, the chassis of the Acura MDX at the Nürburgring was sportily tuned. The only engine variant was a 3.7 l V6 engine with 224 kW (300 hp).

Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC The prototype version of the third generation of the MDX was presented at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2013, with the production version formally following at NYIAS that same year. Production of the vehicle began in May 2013 and sales began in June 2013. A revised version has been available in stores since June 22, 2016.
In 2015 the almost identical third generation of the Honda Pilot was presented.
