Hong Yun-suk (born August 19, 1925 in Chŏngju, North P'yŏngan Province; † October 12, 2015 ) was a South Korean poet .

Life

Hong Yun-suk was born in Chŏngju, North P'yŏngan Province and grew up in Seoul. She attended the Tongdŏk Girls School and then studied at the Gyeongseong Pedagogical College (Kyŏngsŏng). After working as a teacher for a few years, she began studying at Seoul National University College of Education , which she dropped out after the outbreak of the Korean War .

In 1947 she made her debut in the magazine "Literatur- Nachrichten " ( 문예 신보 ) with the poem Autumn ( 가을 ). Besides writing, she mainly worked for various newspapers and magazines. Hong Yun-suk has held various offices in the field of culture, including serving as President of the Korean Women's Literature Association and the Korean Poetry Association.

She has received several awards for her work. For example, she received the Ku Sang Literature Prize (2012) and the Chungang Prize (2002) in the art category.

Like many Koreans of her generation, the Korean War and the division of the country shaped their lives. Therefore, pessimism and a gloomy mood resonate in many of her poems.
