The Hood River is a roughly 25 km long river in Hood River County in the US state of Oregon .
It drains the northern area of Mount Hood and flows into the Columbia River near the town of Hood River (Oregon) . The Hood River is created by the union of the two headwaters East Fork Hood River and West Fork Hood River . A few kilometers above the Middle Fork Hood River flows into the East Fork Hood River .
The small river was discovered by Lewis and Clark on October 29, 1805 and was initially named "Labeasche River" (after the expedition member Francis Labiche).
The East Fork Hood River has a length of 24 km and rises at the Newton Clark Glacier of Mount Hood . Almost the entire stretch of the river has been designated a National Wild and Scenic River .
The Middle Fork Hood River has a length of 16 km and arises below the Coe and Eliot glaciers . 6 km of its route are protected as a National Wild and Scenic River .
The West Fork Hood River is 15 miles long and is formed on the Ladd Glacier .
