Hooked on a Feeling is a pop song by the American singer BJ Thomas . There are several covers of the play, including one by the Swedish rock band Blue Swede , whose version reached number one in the United States in 1974.
Cover versions
- In 1971 the English musician Jonathan King published a cover of the song and added the jungle chants "Ooga Chaka". He called this “a reggae rhythm through male voices”. His version reached number 23 on the UK singles chart in November 1971.
- In 1974 the Swedish rock group Blue Swede published an interpretation of "Ooga Chaka" with Björn Skifs as lead singer . Their version peaked at number one on the United States' charts .
- In 1978, the cover of Canadian country singer Carroll Baker reached number one of the RPM country hits .
- In 1997 David Hasselhoff released a version of Hooked on a Feeling on the album of the same name.
- In 1999 Vonda Shepard (from the TV series Ally McBeal ) sang the song.
- 2013 BJ sang Thomas Hooked on a Feeling in a duet with Sara Niemietz on his album The Living Room Sessions . The album includes new interpretations of many of his greatest hits.
Others
The Blue Swede version was used in the 2014 feature film Guardians of the Galaxy , causing the sales of the recording to skyrocket. The film's soundtrack also peaked on the Billboard 200 chart in August 2014.
In 2015, the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team used the interpretation of Blue Swede in a commercial along with the newly acquired David Price and Troy Tulowitzki.
