Hordes of Zombies -

Hordes of Zombies is the third studio album by the American grindcore band Terrorizer . It was released on February 24, 2012 by the French independent label Season of Mist .

Emergence

In September 2008, Pete Sandoval ( drummer of Morbid Angel ) was asked by Anthony Rezhawk if he was interested in a new album with Terrorizer. Sandoval agreed and Rezhawk brought in Katina Culture from his band Resistant Culture as guitarist . After completing the ongoing tour activities with Morbid Angel, the three musicians recorded a demo with which their band manager applied to various record labels. In spring 2011 it was officially announced that Terrorizer had signed a record deal with Season of Mist and that the new album would be released in early 2012. All of the tracks on the album were written by Anthony Rezhawk and Katina Culture.

Pete Sandoval's operation on the intervertebral discs did not interfere with the recordings, as he had already recorded his drum tracks in January 2009. David Vincent ( bassist for Morbid Angel) only came to the recordings at the last minute as bassist, although a session bassist was already engaged. His involvement was an idea of the Season of Mist label, which hoped for a promotional effect for Terrorizer 's album because of the Morbid Angel album Illud divinum insanus released in June 2011 . The album was produced by Dan Swanö .

The band sees Hordes of Zombies as a concept album , as the songs deal with a basic theme. Rezhawk wants to see the term zombie as a metaphor for the exploitation of nature by humans. Zombies stand for the fact that mankind acts against nature for its own good and out of comfort and thus conjures up its own doom. The record cover comes from the Berlin artist Nesha.

Reviews

Michael Edele from laut.de writes that the album is "sound-technically powerful and differentiated", but that it rarely succeeds in incorporating aha moments into the high tempo of the pieces. Guitarist Katina Culture succeeds in one or the other good idea, but singer Rezhawk cannot set any accents vocally. Mathias Freiesleben from powermetal.de, on the other hand, thinks that Hordes of Zombies will set standards for 2012 and sums up that the album offers “Grind of the extra class”. For the reviewer of whiskey-soda.de , Hordes of Zombies is a “masterpiece” and a “must-have for every Deathgrinder”. He describes the album as “incredibly high quality”, praises the rhythm section with bassist David Vincent and drummer Pete Sandoval as well as the guitar work by Katina Culture, but he also complains about the monotonous sounding vocals of Anthony Rezhawk. Patrick Schmidt from Rock Hard was disappointed. Although Hordes of Zombies is a solid Deathgrind album, it is too predictable and doesn't have much to do with the earlier Terrorizers.
