Mitsuo Horiuchi

Mitsuo Horiuchi ( Japanese 堀 内 光 雄 , Horiuchi Mitsuo ; born January 1, 1930 in Fuefuki , Yamanashi Prefecture ; † May 17, 2016 ) was a Japanese politician ( LDP ).

Mitsuo Horiuchi, son of an entrepreneurial family and a graduate of Keiō University , has been a member of the Yamanashi Prefecture of Shūgiin , the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament ( Kokkai ) , since 1976 .

In the Uno Sōsuke cabinet he was Minister for Health, Labor and Social Affairs (1989). In the Hashimoto II cabinet he was Minister for International Trade and Industry (1997/1998); his successor was Kaoru Yosano .

In 2001 he became chairman of the General Council of the Liberal Democratic Party LDP . He split from the LDP in 2006 and retired from politics in 2009 after not being re-elected after ten terms.
