Horreninsel is the name of a 55 hectare nature reserve south of Altrip in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

Protection purpose

In the ordinance for the nature reserve is named as a protection purpose: "... the preservation of the area with its water and water change areas, its soft and hardwood meadows, its semi-arid lawns as locations of rare plant species and plant communities as well as the habitat of rare animal species."

The willow-leaved elephant and the real hair strand are particularly worthy of protection plant species on a river valley semi -arid grassland .

Location and geography

The area, which predominantly consists of alluvial forest and old Rhine waters, connects directly to the south of the Altrips settlement area. In the east it is bounded by the banks of the Rhine for around 1.6 km and in the west by the main Rhine dike. The maximum east-west extension is a little over 400 m.
