Mechtersheim clay pits

The Mechtersheimer Tongruben nature reserve is located in the municipality of Römerberg in the Rhein-Pfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The approximately 34 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1983 , extends southeast of Mechtersheim , a district of the local community of Römerberg. The Rhine flows not far to the east .
The area includes former clay pits , open water areas, shallow water and bank zones as well as reed beds and rows of bushes.
