Sheep meadows (nature reserve)

The Schafwiesen nature reserve is located in the municipality of Römerberg (Pfalz) in the Rhein-Pfalz district in Rhineland-Palatinate .
The approximately 29 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1989 , extends southeast of Mechtersheim , a district of the local community Römerberg (Palatinate) directly on the east-flowing Rhine .
The protection purpose is the preservation of the species-rich alluvial forest, interspersed in a mosaic-like manner with numerous smaller still waters (Schluten), reed beds and hay meadows, as habitats for rare and threatened animal and plant communities and as an important link between north and south lying wetland areas worthy of protection.
