Horst Förster (conductor, 1933)
Horst Förster (born September 13, 1933 in Leipzig ) is a German conductor and musicologist . He lives and works in Berlin .
Live and act
Förster began his studies as Kapellmeister at the University of Music in Leipzig . In 1954 he founded the Collegium musicum (today Academic Orchestra Leipzig ) at the University of Leipzig , which gives concerts regularly in the Gewandhaus . Förster completed his studies in 1957 as a qualified conductor. This was followed by studying musicology at the Leipzig University of Music, which he graduated with a diploma in 1963 . He received his doctorate with the dissertation “The form in the symphonic works of Alexander N. Scriabin ”.
With the Academic Orchestra Leipzig, which he directed for 60 years, Förster has given concerts in numerous European countries and in the USA, Canada, China and Japan.
From 1970 to 1978 he worked as music director of the State Loh Orchestra in Sondershausen . He was then chief conductor of the Schwerin Philharmonic from 1978 to 1988 . In Schwerin, he was responsible for the establishment of the Schwerin branch of the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin from 1981 . There he was a lecturer in music history. In 1987 he became an honorary professor . In 1988 he received a professor of conducting.
Förster has lived in Berlin as a freelance conductor and musicologist since 1991. He was repeatedly guest conductor at the Great Romantics Festival of the American Liszt Society in Hamilton / Canada and at the Immanuel and Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival in Houston / USA.
Awards
- 2006: Appointment as honorary member of the American Franz Liszt Society for life
- 2013: Medal of Honor of the City of Leipzig
