Horst Hahne (medalist)

Horst Hahne (* 1940 in Frankfurt am Main ) is an Australian engraver , medalist and designer of German origin. His signature is "HH".

Life

He started school after the Second World War and graduated from school in 1955. Then he began his apprenticeship in typographic art & as a hand engraver at Ludwig & Mayer , an old-established type foundry in Frankfurt am Main . In addition to his teaching, he devoted himself to studies in typographic design . After completing his apprenticeship, Horst Hahne worked for his trainer as a hand engraver for a year before he emigrated to Australia in 1959 .

In Australia he lived from 1959 to 1965 in Adelaide South Australia , from 1965 to 1998 in Canberra , Australian capital territory . In Canberra, alongside his professional work, he studied Figure & Portrait Drawing at the Canberra School of Art from 1975 to 1983 .

In 1996 Horst Hahne was awarded the Public Service Medal (PSM). This civilian award is given in small numbers to Australian public servants for outstanding public work.

After retiring in 1998, Horst Hahne moved to Brisbane , Queensland .

Act

  • 1959 to 1965: Hand engraver for stamp production at Griffin Press, a subsidiary of The Advertiser (Adelaide) Ltd, Adelaide , South Australia .
  • 1965-1998: working as a state employee at the Royal Australian Mint , the Staatsmünzanstalt of Australia in Canberra : 1965 Hand Engraver ( hand engraver ) for the production of coins and medals stamps. 1969 Mint Craftsman IV ( master engraver ). 1979 Chief Engraver . 1987 Director of Design & Engraving . He retired on July 1, 1998.

During his long career at the Royal Australian Mint , Horst Hahne has produced many coins , medals and awards for Australia and other countries as a designer and / or medalist . During his numerous business trips overseas, he also came back to his old homeland: in 1983 and 1991 to visit the State Mint in Stuttgart , in 1989 to a coin technology conference in Hamburg and in 1995 to a coin technology conference in Vienna .
