Horst Kirsch (born August 24, 1933 in Apolda ) is a former Thuringian soccer player. For SC Motor Jena he played in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR football association . In Jena , Kirsch was GDR champion and cup winner.

Athletic career

Until 1954, Kirsch played in the company sports association (BSG) Chemie Apolda , most recently in the third-class district league Erfurt . At the age of 20, he moved to SC Motor Jena in the second-rate GDR league at the beginning of the 1954/55 season . There he took over the position of the center forward from the first day of the match, played all 26 point games and was the top scorer of the Jenaer with 15 goals. From 1956, the calendar year schedule was in effect in GDR football. This time Kirsch only missed one point game, his 16 goals this time only reached second place in the Jena top scorer hierarchy behind Helmut Müller , who scored 28 goals. Nevertheless, Kirsch was one of the decisive players who fought for promotion to the GDR league.

In the elite league of GDR football, Kirsch had no difficulty adjusting. With nine goals, he again won the top scorer's crown in Jena and ended up in 6th place in the top division scorer list. Until 1962 he was the standard center forward in Jena. In 1960 he won his first title when he won the GDR soccer cup with the SC Motor . In the final , the Jena defeated SC Empor Rostock after extra time with 3: 2. Kirsch, this time used as a left winger, scored the winning goal in the 110th minute. After winning the cup, SC Motor Jena was eligible to play in the 1961/62 European Cup Winners' Cup . Surprisingly, he made it to the semi-finals and was only eliminated there after two defeats (0: 1, 0: 4) against Atlético Madrid . Kirsch still missed the two encounters in the first round, but then played the other six games in which he scored four goals.

Due to the renewed change of the schedule back to the summer-spring rhythm, the 1961/62 season was played over 39 game days. Kirsch was only missing four times and, with eleven goals in the game, was once again one of the most dangerous players in Jena. The 1962/63 season brought the first GDR championship for SC Motor Jena, but for Horst Kirsch the abrupt end of his career as a competitive footballer. After he had played the first three point games in the league, he was then only used on the 8th, 14th and 26th game day. After another attempt on the first day of the 1963/64 season, Kirsch's senior league career was finally ended. In seven seasons he had made 135 appearances and scored 43 goals.

Between 1964 and 1966 Kirsch played for the district league club BSG Motor Zeiss Jena , with whom he won the district championship in 1965. In 1966, BSG Motor was incorporated into the newly founded FC Carl Zeiss Jena and then continued to play as FC Carl Zeiss II . With this team, Kirsch made it to the GDR league in 1967. In 1968 he finally ended his career as a football player.
