Horst Krüger (General)

Horst Krüger (born May 23, 1916 in Hamburg , † April 7, 1989 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was an officer in the air force of the Wehrmacht and later the air force of the German armed forces . He retired as major general .

Life

Krüger joined the army of the Wehrmacht on November 1, 1935 and served in the artillery . On October 1, 1937, he switched to the Air Force and took part in an observer course at the Hildesheim Reconnaissance Aviation School . He then switched to reconnaissance group 11 and later to reconnaissance group 10 as an observer and image officer on July 1, 1938. There he was promoted to lieutenant on January 1, 1940 , and from January 6, 1941 completed a blind flight course in Brieg . He then switched to night reconnaissance squadron 3 on April 4, 1941, where he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross on November 4, 1941 . From December 1, 1941, he took up general staff studies at Air War School 2 in Berlin-Gatow . After he had completed this on August 31, 1942, he moved, meanwhile promoted to captain , to the staff of the X. Fliegerkorps , where he assumed the task of first general staff officer (Ia). From there he went to the General Staff of the Air Force on July 1, 1943, where he was promoted to major on January 1, 1944 . On January 26, 1945, the change took place as Ia in the staff of the 1st hunting division. There he saw the end of the war.

Krüger joined the German Air Force in 1955 and retired as major general on September 30, 1973. In 1973 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit.
