career

Kuballa, who came to SC Union Ohligs from VfB Bottrop to the Blue-Yellows in the city of blades, made his debut under player-coach Horst Stockhausen in the last year of the old second-class Regionalliga West in the 1-1 home draw against Preußen Münster on August 12, 1973 in the promoted team . He came on as a substitute for midfielder Gerd Knoth in the second half . Kuballa made 27 appearances in the round and scored four goals alongside teammates Gerd Knoth, Manfred Kreis , Jürgen Lehr , Werner Lenz , Reinhold Nordmann and Klaus Uphoff . Ohligs (the westernmost district of Solingen) was 15th, but could not qualify for the newly introduced 2nd Bundesliga for the 1974/75 season. From spring onwards, the club was named OSC Solingen, became champion in the Niederrhein amateur league with only one defeat with 51: 9 points, also prevailed in the promotion round and - after a merger, now as SG Union Solingen - was accepted into the 2nd Bundesliga.

Kuballa made his debut under coach Stockhausen on August 24, 1975 in a 2-1 win against FC St. Pauli in the 2nd division. From March 1976 Stockhausen was replaced by Herbert Burdenski and the SG Union reached the league with 13th place. Kuballa had appeared in 33 league games and scored seven goals. The second year in the 2nd league, 1976/77, ended the team from the stadium on Hermann-Löns-Weg after the 38th game day, May 22, 1977, with a 1: 2 defeat against Preußen Münster as relegated on the 19th place. Kuballa, Mileta Rnić and Jürgen Lehr had formed the attack . The personalities in the course of the round with Otto Luttrop and the change of coach from Norbert Wagner to Hermann Eppenhoff had not been able to bring about the change. Only the withdrawal of the license for the Bonner SC and the waiver of Göttingen 05 and Wacker 04 Berlin brought Solingen to the 2nd Bundesliga. Kuballa had completed 28 missions with one goal. In the third year in the 2nd Bundesliga, the SG Union moved up the table under the new coach Horst Franz ; the people from Klingenstadt finished ninth with goalkeeper Helmut Pabst , defensive specialist Dirk Hupe and goal scorers Werner Lenz (38-19) and Hans-Günther Plücken (33-16). Kuballa had played in 23 games and scored one goal.

During his time at Union Solingen, Horst Kuballa was known for his long-range shots, which he sometimes shot from the center line.
