Horst Posdorf

Horst Eckart Alwin Posdorf (born February 8, 1948 in Dornum ; † October 12, 2017 ) was a German mathematician , politician ( CDU ) and a member of the European Parliament from 2005 to 2009 . There he belonged to the Group of the European People's Party (EPP).

education and profession

After graduating from high school and completing military service, Horst Posdorf studied mathematics and physics at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1968 and graduated in 1974 as a qualified mathematician. 1974/1975 he was a student trainee and from 1975 assessor of the teaching post. From 1976 to 1978 Posdorf worked as a research assistant at the computer center of the Ruhr University and received his doctorate in 1978. rer. nat. Between 1978 and 1980 he was a lecturer at the university in Bochum and at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund . In 1981 he was appointed professor of mathematics at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences .

politics

Posdorf was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1985 to 2000 . From 1985 to 1995 he was the science policy spokesman for his parliamentary group and from 1995 to 2000 he was the chairman of the parliamentary committee for European policy and development cooperation. In 1996 Posdorf became Vice President of the European Movement North Rhine-Westphalia.

In October 2005 he replaced the late Jürgen Zimmerling in the European Parliament, of which he was a member until the end of the 2009 electoral term.
