Jürgen Zimmerling

Jürgen Zimmerling (born February 17, 1952 in Oberhausen ; † October 8, 2005 ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Zimmerling passed his Abitur at the Ignaz-Günther-Gymnasium in Rosenheim and studied law with a focus on international law and European law at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), later adding history and a basic course in pedagogy. For his legal state examination he was at the Higher Regional Court of Hamm , and he received the state examination in history at the RUB. In March 1981 the master craftsman examination at the state fire brigade institute in Münster followed . A year and a half later, he also passed the major state legal examination at the State Justice Examination Office in North Rhine-Westphalia and, in 1990, the examination for chief fire chief and platoon leader in disaster control in Münster. In 1994 the doctorate to Dr. phil.

From 1975 to 1980 Zimmerling was a member of various chairs at the RUB. In October 1982 he started working as a lawyer in Essen , and in 1985 he opened his own law firm. From 1991 to 1995 he was a teacher at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Brühl , after which he was professor of business law and commercial administrative law as well as European law at the University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Management (FOM) in Essen, where he headed the law department. In 1997 and 1998 he was involved in setting up the business law degree course at the FOM. He also led a number of leadership associations in civil protection and disaster control at the State Fire Brigade Institute in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Zimmerling was a member of the CDU from 1975. He was deputy chairman of the European Conference in the Ruhr Area. From 1999 to 2004 he was a member of the European Parliament . In 2005 he was again a member of parliament for a few months, replacing Armin Laschet . After his death, his deputy Horst Posdorf took over the mandate.

Zimmerling died of a heart attack. He left behind his wife and two children.
