Horst Schachner

Horst Schachner (born June 27, 1962 in Graz ) is an Austrian trade union official and politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). Since December 17, 2019, he has been a member of the Federal Council sent by the Styrian state parliament .

Life

After primary school in Wetzelsdorf and Liebenau, Horst Schachner attended the secondary school Dr. Karl Renner in Liebenau. Then he learned the profession of confectioner . In 1980 he did military service .

Schachner was active in the catering and construction industries. In 1984 he joined the Graz public transport company as a bus and tram driver. In 1991 he became vice chairman and 1992 chairman of the workers' works council, in 1998 he became chairman of the central works council of Grazer Stadtwerke AG . From 1998 to 2007 he was chairman of the trade union trade, transport, traffic (HTV) in Styria , from 2002 to 2007 he was also chairman of the Federal Transport Section and deputy chairman of the HTV union. In 2002/03 he was initially executive chairman of the Styrian regional organization of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions (ÖGB), and has been its chairman since 2003. Since 2007 he has also been the Styrian state chairman of the Vida transport and services union .

Since 2002 he has been a member of the SPÖ Styrian regional party executive. After the state election in 2019 , he was at the beginning of the XVIII. Legislative period on December 17, 2019, delegated by the Styrian state parliament alongside Elisabeth Grossmann to the Federal Council . The two Styrian SPÖ mandataries Hubert Koller and Martin Weber left the Federal Council.
