Horst Wenzel (pedagogue)

Horst Wenzel (born August 16, 1927 in Görlitz ; † September 28, 2009 there ) is a German author , educator and author of regional cultural and historical works. As the leading representative of the Evangelical Church of Silesian Upper Lusatia , he was one of the pioneers of the peaceful revolution in 1989/1990 and one of the formative designers in a democratic community.

Career

After the Second World War , Horst Wenzel was trained as a new teacher urgently needed at the time at the teacher training institute in just a few months . His first place of work was School 1 on Schulstrasse in Görlitz, where he also worked as a director for a while. From 1957 and until his retirement due to old age, he taught German, geography and astronomy at the Annenschule (today Augustum-Annen-Gymnasium ).

In addition to his educational activities, he attached great importance to educational work. Horst Wenzel put his gifts in the service of the common good and in cross-generational educational work. In over 40 years of active church work he was repeatedly deputy chairman of the parish council of the Evangelical Church of the Resurrection in Görlitz- Weinhübel and worked there as a church elder into old age .
