The Hospital Kuks (German Kukus) is a baroque building complex in the municipality of Kuks in Okres Trutnov ( Czech Republic ). The Hospital of the Brothers of Mercy with a Church of the Most Holy Trinity and a crib is located in the middle of the spas .

history

The hospital church was built according to plans by the architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi from 1707 to 1715 on behalf of the builder Franz Anton Graf von Sporck . The front of the church shows the allegorical cycle of the twelve vices and the twelve virtues. The valuable statues were created by Matthias Bernhard Braun (Matyáš Bernard Braun). The stone carving was carried out by the court stonemason Giovanni Pietro della Torre . It was his last job; he died in 1711.

The hospital was founded by Graf Sporck in 1708 and completed in 1715. In the eastern part of the hospital are the convent rooms of the friars and a pharmacy , equipped with the original baroque furniture .

To the west of Kuks, MB Braun created the “Bethlehem” place of worship in a beech forest. It consists of a group of sculptures , some of which are executed as reliefs carved from the rock walls and others as statues made from boulders. These works are among the best sculptural works of the Baroque period, and there is no analogy to their iconographic representation in Europe .
