Hot Chocolate is a British soul and funk band that was formed in 1969 and had their greatest successes between 1974 and 1983 with disco titles .

Band history

Founding members were singers Errol Brown (1943-2015), Harvey Hinsley ( guitar ), Larry Ferguson (1943 / 44-2015, keyboard ), Tony Wilson ( electric bass ), Tony Connor ( drums ) and Patrick Olive ( conga ). Tony Wilson left the band in 1975 and Patrick Olive took over the bass part. At the time, it was considered unusual for black and white musicians to play together in the band.

The international breakthrough came in 1974 with the title Emma , the story of a hopeful young woman who, despite her talent, remains unsuccessful and finally uses this as an opportunity to commit suicide. The title reached in the US 8th and was later several times by other bands (including by The Sisters of Mercy and Urge Overkill ) nachgesungen . The group was shaped by its charismatic, bald-headed singer Errol Brown. But although the group with titles like You Sexy Thing (1987 was back on the charts in England and Germany), Every 1's a Winner , So You Win Again and No Doubt About It , often self-written numerous, mostly from Mickie Most produced hits had, it never achieved the status of contemporary groups like ABBA , Boney M. or Smokie in Germany , all of which could be better sold in the media.

In the 1970s there were only four performers who had chart positions in the UK each year: Status Quo , Diana Ross , Elvis Presley and Hot Chocolate. Hot Chocolate was instrumental in developing the disco sound.

In 1981, at the height of her success, Hot Chocolate played at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana . 1985 Errol Brown left the band and continued his career as a solo singer and producer , which also resulted in a collaboration with Dieter Bohlen . The group reached top ten positions again when a remix album of their greatest hits was released in 1987 . In November 2003, the British Queen received the singer Errol Brown and honored him with the MBE for his musical life's work .

Hot Chocolate continues to perform with the three original members Harvey Hinsley, Patrick Olive and Tony Connor. Kennie Simon joins the band as a singer. The group continues to tour the world with its numerous world-famous hits.
