The Hotel Bellevue (also Rheinhotel Bellevue ) is a former hotel on the banks of the Rhine in Rhöndorf , a district of Bad Honnef in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia , which dates back to the end of the 19th century. From 2009 to 2011 it was converted into condominiums.

The former hotel building, the only one that forms the structural front of the Rhine in Rhöndorf, is located at the end of Karl-Broel-Straße on the Rhine side between the Rhine promenade and the Siebengebirgsbahn ( Rhöndorf stop ).

The origins of the hotel under the name "Bellevue" can be traced back to the end of the 19th century and the then owner Carl Eikerling, when it consisted of two three-story houses with a path leading down to the Rhine. It was the only hotel in Rhöndorf located on the banks of the Rhine. Just outside the hotel put on a groyne the local boats. At the end of the 1920s, Jakob Müllegan took over the business, and his family ran the hotel to the end. A large terrace and a garden café had been added by 1939. Towards the end of the Second World War , the hotel was damaged.

In the post-war period, the hotel - with the excursion restaurant “Die Rheinterrassen” - was operated primarily as a dance restaurant under Hans Müllegan, who was also Vice Mayor of Bad Honnef; In the 1960s, the British pop singer and TV presenter Chris Howland was a guest here with a show. Due to the location in the place of residence of the first Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer and the proximity to the then seat of government Bonn , the hotel counted a few actors and singers as well as well-known politicians as guests, including Walter Scheel , Karl Carstens and Hans-Dietrich Genscher . A separate hotel wing was built in 1971 and a second one was added in 1980 or 1985. In September 1986 the President of Cameroon , Paul Biya , stayed here during his state visit to the Federal Republic. The building was expanded again to 130 rooms by the spring of 1989. In 1990 the Czechoslovak national soccer team stayed here in preparation for the World Cup in Italy at that time . At that time, the company also had a wine shop. On October 18, 1994, the first meeting of the newly elected Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen parliamentary group took place in the Hotel Bellevue .

After searching in vain for a new hotel operator since 2003, planning began in spring 2007 to convert the hotel building into condominiums. The hotel was finally sold in May 2008. The investor then began implementing the “Rhein-Arkaden Bellevue” project. From mid-October 2008, the Rhine terraces were first demolished and the view of the Rhine exposed. In the early summer of 2009, the actual construction work began for the renovation of the two previous hotel buildings, raised by 70 cm for flood protection reasons, and the construction of a new building with a total of 22 condominiums and 3,500 m² of living space. At the same time, the publicly accessible Rhine promenade in front of the buildings was expanded and moved closer to the bank. The construction project was completed in spring 2011. Since then, the street name Bellevue for today's residential buildings has referred to the former hotel .

The hotel was most recently a three-part ensemble consisting of a four-storey main building, a five-storey new building to the north (main building) and the single-storey excursion restaurant “Die Rheinterrassen” (300 seats) with an open veranda directly above the river - separated by a public promenade. There was the restaurant "Bellevue-Stube", the "Salon Petersberg" and a winter garden. After the renovations and extensions in the 1980s, the hotel had 130 beds in 75 rooms and, after the last expansion, 10 luxury suites - the largest with 180 m² - each with its own garage. The wing with the suites had its own foyer, conference rooms and was equipped with bulletproof glass . The ensemble is only preserved in the slightly different cubature of the two former hotel buildings.
