Houwitser ( nl . ' Howitzer ') is a Dutch death metal band from Amersfoort that was founded in 1997, separated in 2007 and reunited in 2009.
history
The band was founded in 1997 by guitarist Michel Alderliefsten (ex- Sinister ) and drummer Aad Kloosterwaard (Sinister). A short time later, singer Mike van Mastrigt (ex-Sinister) and bassist Theo Van Eekelen ( Hail of Bullets , Thanatos ) joined the band. The debut album Death .. But Not Buried was released in the spring of 1999 via Displeased Records . Towards the end of the year the band split from singer van Mastrigt.
The second album Embrace Damnation was recorded with singer Arjaan "Djortzzz" Kampman, who in 2001 by Stan Blonk. The band signed a contract with Osmose Productions and released their third album Rage Inside the Womb in 2002. The release was followed by a tour across Europe . After the album Damage Assessment was released in 2003, the band split up in 2004 for the time being. Displeased Records re-released the album Death ... But Not Buried with seven bonus songs and a new cover design.
In 2007 the band reunited and signed a contract with Sevared Records in 2009 . With this label the band released the album Bestial Atrocity .

The band plays traditional Death Metal, which has a particularly aggressive sound.

Bassist Roman Ploeg founded the band Bleeding Gods at the end of 2012 .
