Player career

Watford FC (1968–1973)

After Mike Walker was able to establish himself as a regular goalkeeper at the English fourth division club York City , he moved to the third division club Watford in 1968 and celebrated with his new team in the 1968/69 season winning the championship in the third division . He achieved the greatest success with his team in the FA Cup 1969/70 by moving into the semifinals (1: 5 against Chelsea ). Watford had previously eliminated Liverpool 1-0 in the quarter-finals . After three years in the second division, Watford rose in 1971/72 as bottom of the table back in the third division.

Colchester United (1973-1983)

On August 25, 1973, he moved to the fourth division Colchester United and rose in the 73/74 season as third in the third division. After relegation in the 1975/76 season, the team managed direct resurgence. The club spent the following three years in the upper half of the third division before relegated to the fourth division in 1980/81. After two years in the fourth division, Mike Walker ended his playing career in 1983 at the age of 37.

Coaching career

Colchester United (1986-1987)

The previously active in the coaching staff Mike Walker took over on April 10, 1986 as head coach at Colchester United. After a narrowly missed promotion in the 1986/87 season, this activity ended at the fourth division but on November 1, 1987. Walker was dismissed as the leader of the table.

Norwich City (1992-1994)

After working as a youth coach at Norwich City , Walker was promoted to head coach on June 1, 1992 and succeeded Dave Stringer at the first division club . In the first season of the newly introduced Premier League 1992/93 Walker led his team to third place in the table behind Manchester United and Aston Villa and thus to the best placement in the club's history. With this success, City started in the 1993/94 UEFA Cup for the first time in the European Cup and, after successes over Vitesse Arnheim (3-0 and 0-0) and FC Bayern Munich (2-1 and 1-1), reached the third round. There was against the eventual title holder Inter Milan with two 0-1 defeats. Mike Walker, who was voted coach of the month in October 1993, left Norwich on January 6, 1994 to become the new coach of Everton FC .

Everton FC (1994)

With his new team he finished the Premier League in 1993/94 only in seventeenth place and only secured relegation on the last day of the game with two points ahead of relegated Sheffield United . After a false start in the Premier League in 1994/95 , Mike Walker was dismissed on November 8, 1994, lying on the bottom of the table. At this point, Everton had not been able to finish a league game victorious.

Norwich City (1996-1998)

Walker took up his next coaching position over 1½ years later. On August 1, 1996 he returned to Norwich City, which were relegated to the second division in 1995. After a thirteenth place in the 1996/97 season, Walker found himself with Norwich only in the lower midfield of the table in 1997/98 before he was dismissed shortly before the end of the season on April 30, 1998.

APOEL Nicosia (2000-2001)

Mike Walker's last coaching position was in 2000 with the Cypriot first division club APOEL Nicosia . With his new team he reached in the first Cypriot league 2000/01 but only a fifth place in the table.
