After Stella accepts Ted's marriage proposal, he wants to get to know her better and learns that she has never seen Star Wars . Meanwhile, Barney tells Lily that he is in love with Robin, whereupon Lily arranges a date. However, Barney does not manage to confess his love to Robin, and he realizes that a steady relationship with her would be a mistake. After watching Star Wars, Stella lies to Ted that she likes the movie because it's very important to Ted. | |||||||

At MacLaren's Pub, Marshall tells the others how he had the best burger in New York when he arrived in town. Then the five set off in search of the store. Eating "New York's Best Burger" seems very important to Marshall as he is frustrated with being unemployed. Meanwhile, Barney repeatedly promotes the Goliath National Bank. When the five believe they have found the store, it turns out that the burger joint has become a branch of the Goliath National Bank. Lily now also learns that Marshall has found a job at GNB contrary to his ideas. With the help of a man, they get the best burger in New York that evening. | |||||||

Because Ted spends most of his time on the train to meet Stella in New Jersey and his friends in New York, Stella invites his friends over. Although they hate New Jersey, they ultimately agree to visit. There is an argument between Ted and Stella: Ted doesn't want to move to New Jersey, Stella doesn't want to move to New York. Meanwhile, Robin quits the job at Metro News 1 because of a supposed position at a larger broadcaster, which only turns out to be a promise to a casting. After Ted and Stella are reconciled, Ted plans to move to New Jersey. Robin, who had previously quit her old job, will get a job as a foreign correspondent at the new station and will go to Japan. | |||||||

Barney, disguised as an old man, wants to tear up a woman at MacLaren's, which he succeeds. Meanwhile, Ted, Marshall, Lily and Robin pack Robin into Japan and Marshall and Lily into their new apartment, as Ted is moving to live with Stella. While moving house, Ted finds a sealed letter addressed to him. In it, the friends advised him against marrying Stella so quickly. Ted and Marshall realize they don't want to move away. Lily and Robin don't want to move either. But then Ted realizes that it is a mistake not to move because life needs change. They swear they'd all come back to the bar in a year's time to have an expensive scotch, which they'll save for now. | |||||||

Ted and Stella want to celebrate their wedding on Shelter Island. All friends are invited, plus Robin, Ted and Toni's ex, Stella's ex and the father of their daughter. Stella doesn't want the ex-partners to be at the wedding and so Ted talks to Robin and Stella to Toni. Meanwhile, Barney is eager to sleep with Robin again. His plan was to get Robin drunk at Ted's wedding and end up in bed with her. However, before that he grabs the next one - Stella's sister, who actually wanted to get married on Shelter Island. After talking to Robin, Ted discovers a card that Stella wrote on the little table in his room. Stella leaves Ted in front of the altar and drives back to New York with Toni. | |||||||

After Ted's wedding disaster, Ted surprisingly recovers very quickly. The others do not understand his method of suppressing grief. He tries to avoid Stella and shows a map with all the places where Stella could be. When they are in a tapas shop that is actually outside the zone where Stella could be, Stella promptly walks in through the door. The five friends hide from her under the table and each one tells about people they would never want to see again, such as Lily's schoolmate Stinker, Barney's prison friend Bekka de Lucci or Robin's dad. Ted realizes that he should face his fear and talk to Stella. At this very moment Stella has disappeared and the friends follow her in a taxi. Ted knows exactly what to tell her, but when he sees Stella, Toni and their daughter, he realizes that they are made for each other and Ted is no longer angry. | |||||||

Barney gets a call from a woman who says he is pregnant. That rekindles Marshall and Lily's desire to have children. Meanwhile, Barney learns that he will not be a father after all. Without further ado, he invents “Not Father's Day” for single men who like being childless. Meanwhile, Lily brings Ted and Robin to her place and asks them both if they are ready to become parents. Ted is for kids and Robin is against it. Lily is at a loss and gets drunk, whereupon she drives to Marshall's work and immediately wants a baby from him. Marshall brings her home and explains the next morning that he is not ready for children because of the job and finances. Barney realizes Non-Father's Day is only for losers who don't get a girlfriend, and he ends it. | |||||||

Lily and Robin want to go to their kindergarten colleague Jillian's birthday, but Jillian is very different than at work. She is a woooo girl! Robin joins this group of Woooo girls. Meanwhile, Ted is commissioned by Barney to design a design for the new headquarters of the GNB. However, this design was rejected, which is mainly Barney's fault, as he thinks the Swedish architecture collective SVEN is great. Lily tries to be included in the group of Woooo Girls until Robin has a serious conversation with her that Lily does not fit into this group. Robin explains that the Woooo-Girls “woooohen” because life doesn't offer them anything better. | |||||||

When Ted arrives home, he finds a naked man who is on a date with Robin and wants to surprise her with his tactic called "the naked man" and get her to bed. The friends discover that “the naked man” has landed with Robin. While Marshall is disappointed that there are reasons for sex other than love, Barney is enthusiastic about this simple strategy and urges Ted to try the "naked man" on his planned date as well. When the date doesn't go well, Ted decides to comply and succeeds. Barney, on the other hand, is thrown naked from the apartment by the woman during his attempt. Robin invites the man on a second date to prove that she not only had sex with him because he was naked, but eventually lets go of him. | |||||||

The bartender Doug provokes an argument with two men who are sitting at the table of the five friends. He asks them to help him, whereby Ted and Barney get involved after a long discussion. Doug has beaten the men up alone in the meantime, but believes the victory is a communal act. Everyone is enthusiastic about the "tough men". But when the two are charged with assault, they admit that they were not involved and thus stab Doug in the back - there is an argument between them and Doug and Ted knocked out Ted . As it turns out, Marshall had earlier with his Brothers fought and in turn knocks Doug down. | |||||||

It's Christmas and Ted's younger sister, Heather, is visiting. Ted still sees them as a teenager and doesn't want to help them find a job or apartment. Barney, who has been keeping an eye on Heather for a long time, pretends that they are having an affair to show Ted how little he trusts both of them. Meanwhile, Marshall is introducing Robin to a "themed bar" dedicated to his home town of Minnesota. Robin pretends to come from there and settles in so well that the jealous Marshall betrays her Canadian origins. Eventually Robin finds a Canadian bar and Ted supports his sister. | |||||||

Ted meets up again with his ex-girlfriend Karen, who previously cheated on Ted and who Lily and Marshall hate. Barney thinks it's very funny that Marshall left his pants at work and Barney cut up the new pants. It turns out that Karen has a boyfriend and is cheating on him with Ted. First Ted breaks up with her, but then meets with her again. | |||||||

Karen breaks up with Ted over someone else's earring in his bed. Lily had put the earring there on purpose, as Karen failed the "veranda test": In this test, Lily imagines whether Ted's current girlfriend can still sit on a veranda with them when they are retired and whether it suits them. It turns out that Lily has sabotaged Ted's relationships on several occasions, including Robin. Barney discovers through Marshall how great a nightgown can be. Lily tells Karen the truth, whereupon she forgives Ted but tells him not to see Lily again. He then breaks up with Karen and gets along with Lily. | |||||||

Stella's husband Toni has a guilty conscience towards Ted and tries to get him a contract as an architect, but it doesn't work. Ted tells Toni that he doesn't want Stella back after what she did to him, which opens Toni's eyes, which is why he breaks up with Stella. Ted helps them get back together. Barney tries to talk his way out of a speeding ticket, which ends up going to jail. | |||||||

Ted's first assignment, to his frustration, is to design a fast food restaurant. Marshall wants to jump from the roof of her house over the abyss to the neighbors on the roof. Because of the goat mentioned a season earlier, Ted ends up in the hospital, where Barney and Robin kiss after some back and forth. Ted does not get the contract for the fast food store and decides to become a lecturer. In the end, all friends dare to jump onto the neighboring roof. |
