Howard Fineman (born November 17, 1948 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American journalist . He was best known as the main political correspondent of the news magazine Newsweek and as the editor ( editorial director ) of the Internet news platform The Huffington Post .

Life and activity

In his teens , Fineman, who is of Jewish descent, attended Allerdice High School . He then studied at Columbia University and the University of Louisville . He also spent a year at the Georgetown University Law Center . Thanks to Watson and Pulitzer Traveling Fellowships, he was able to study in Europe, Russia and the Middle East as a scholarship holder.

Fineman began his journalistic career in the late 1960s with Louisville Courier-Journal . From 1980 to 2010 he worked as a political correspondent - since 1984 as the official chief correspondent ( cheif political correspondent ) - for the influential Newsweek magazine . As part of this job, he has interviewed all presidential candidates of the two major US parties since 1984. After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , Fineman was the first reporter allowed to conduct an interview with the then incumbent President George W. Bush . In addition to his work on Newsweek , Fineman has contributed to a lesser extent to major newspapers and magazines such as the New York Times , Washington Post, and The New Republic .

In 2010 Fineman moved to the Huffington Post Media Group , where he has held the post of editorial director ever since . In this position, in addition to his own contributions to the Post , he has a large presence in the US media. On television, for example, Fineman often appears as a commentator or participant in discussion boards on news broadcasts on NBC and its cable branch MSNBC .
