Huang Kun ( Chinese  黄昆 , Pinyin Huáng Kūn ; born September 2, 1919 in Beijing ; † July 6, 2005 ibid) was a Chinese solid-state physicist and university professor .

Life

Huang studied physics at Yanjing University in Beijing. He then completed a postgraduate study at the University of Bristol with promotion to Ph.D. 1948. In 1949 he moved to the University of Liverpool , where he worked with Max Born on the book Dynamical Theory of Crystal Lattices ( Clarendon Press , Oxford 1954).

In 1951 Huang returned to the People's Republic of China and became a professor of physics at Peking University . In 1955 he became a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences . Together with his colleagues he developed the quantum theory of the multi- phonon - radiation - and non- radiation transition processes ( Huang-Rhys theory ). Huang was the first to predict diffuse X-ray scattering of lattice defects in crystal lattices , which was later confirmed experimentally.

In 1983, Huang retired, but remained active in semiconductor research and was president of the Chinese Society for Physics from 1987–1991 .

Honors

  • Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Prize for Achievement in Science and Technology (1995)
  • State Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Science and Technology from the President of the People's Republic of China (2001)
  • 5 Million Yuan National Award for Excellence in Science and Technology (2002)
