Huawei Symantec Technologies Co. Ltd ( Chinese 华为赛门铁克科技有限公司 , Pinyin Huawei Sàiméntiěkè Keji Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī ) is a developer, manufacturer and provider of network security , storage and computing solutions. It is based in Chengdu , People's Republic of China . Huawei Symantec was founded as a joint venture between Huawei and Symantec . Huawei initially owned 51% of the company while Symantec held 49%. In November 2011, Huawei completely took over the joint venture, paying $ 530 million for Symantec's stake.

John W. Thompson, President and CEO of Symantec, is the chairman of Huawei Symantec. Ren Zhengfei, the CEO and founder of Huawei, is the CEO of Huawei Symantec.

Technological convergence, research and development

Huawei Symantec owns more than 300 patents in storage and network security, and around 30 of them have been adopted as formal technological standards. Huawei Symantec participates in various standardization bodies , some of which are chair or deputy chair. More than 50% of the employees work in research and development in research laboratories in Beijing , Shenzhen , Hangzhou in China, and also in India .

2000: Huawei started research and development the field of security technology; Symantec is an anti-virus and security software company
2004: Huawei started research and development in storage technology
2005: Symantec acquired Veritas Software , manufacturer of information lifecycle management software
2007 (May): Huawei and Symantec signs agreement to set up a joint venture to provide end-to-end solutions in the field of converged network, security, storage and computing technologies.
2008 (February): Huawei Symantec is founded.
2011 (November): Huawei pays Symantec off and renames the company to Huawei Enterprise .
