Hubert Palfinger

Hubert Palfinger (born April 13, 1942 in Grieskirchen ; † January 19, 2020 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian engineer and founder of the global crane construction company Palfinger AG , of which he was the majority owner. After the company was converted into an AG in 1997, Palfinger was its chairman of the supervisory board until 2003 .

Life

Palfinger completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter at the end of the 1950s , later worked in his father Richard's company and took over in 1964. Interested in crane technology at an early age , the company specialized in hydraulically operated loading cranes , which were sales and soon also export hits were. In 1989 the export quota rose for the first time over 90 percent with a presence in over 70 countries. In 1997, Palfinger became Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Palfinger AG and in 1999 decided to go public . In 2003 he gave up the chairmanship, was deputy chairman until 2008 and remained a member of the body until 2011. Palfinger owned 65% of the shares in Palfinger AG.

From 2002, Palfinger was president of the EC Red Bull Salzburg ice hockey club for several years .

Palfinger was married and had two sons, Hubert Junior and Hannes, who both joined the company's Supervisory Board in 2011.
