The 27th Tobago Cycling Classic took place on October 6, 2013 on the island of Tobago in the Caribbean , which belongs to Trinidad and Tobago . The one-day race was part of the 2014 UCI America Tour , in which it was the first race of the season. It was classified in category 1.2. The first eight riders thus received points for the America Tour ranking. In addition to the international competition, races for mountain bikers and the lower performance classes were also on the program from October 1st .
With the Colombian Jaime Ramírez (Mixed Team) a rider from South America entered the list of winners of the Cycling Classic for the first time. He won by a large margin as a soloist ahead of the two Americans Michael Olheiser from the Vita Malt team and Calixto Bello (both mixed teams).
Attendees
In addition to three Continental teams , including the German formation Team NSP-Ghost , amateur and national teams from France , North America and the Caribbean were at the start. In addition to NSP, the German colors were also represented by the Matrix Racing and Merida Donaueschinger teams. A total of sixteen German drivers took part.
Distance and result
The race started in Tobago's largest city, Scarborough, and after a loop through the southern hinterland of the town led the riders to the north coast of the island. Finally the road went to the south coast and along there back to Scarborough. A total of six mountain ratings were on the program over the 112 kilometers. With a very clear lead of almost three and a half minutes, the Colombian Jaime Ramírez , who was part of a mixed team, won the race from the Americans Olheiser and Bello. The two Germans Jonas Schmeiser and Frederik Dombrowski crossed the finish line in fourth and fifth, also ahead of the first group of pursuers, from which two other compatriots, Andreas Keuser and Daniel Bichlmann, sprinted into the top ten.
