Hubert Scharley

Hubert Scharley (born December 11, 1905 in Gelsenkirchen ; † August 23, 1969 ) was a German trade unionist and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending primary school, Scharley completed an apprenticeship, joined the trade union in 1920 and worked for Rheinstahl-Eisenwerke Gelsenkirchen AG until 1945 . In 1946 he became a union secretary at the union of public services, transport and traffic (ÖTV) and since 1947 was the executive chairman of the DGB district administration in Gelsenkirchen.

Political party

Scharley joined the SPD and was chairman of the SPD local branch in Gelsenkirchen-Altstadt.

MP

Scharley had been a councilor for the city of Gelsenkirchen since 1948, where he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1959 to 1963. He was a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament from 1954 until his death.

Public offices

Scharley served as Lord Mayor of the city of Gelsenkirchen from 1963 until his death.
