Hubertus Backhaus

Hubertus Backhaus (born January 17, 1945 in Erkeln ; † July 16/17, 2012 ) was a CDU politician and 1996–2009 district administrator of the Höxter district .

Life

Hubertus Backhaus was born on January 17, 1945 as the second youngest of six children and grew up on his parents' farm in Erkeln. His father Ludwig was mayor there for almost 40 years.

Backhaus trained as a banker and did his basic military service with the Federal Border Police . He worked for the Central Bank of Münster for two years until he took over the management of the Amelunxen savings and loan fund in 1970 . In 1977 he was a board member of Spadaka in Hoxter until 1986 as director commissioner of R + V Versicherung in charge of the cooperative banks in western and southern Germany. From 1992 he was district director for North Hesse.

Backhaus was married and had three children.

In 1975 Hubertus Backhaus joined the Höxter district council. From 1989 he was parliamentary group chairman of the CDU until he became the first full-time district administrator of the Höxter district on April 1, 1996. He succeeded the former chief district director Paul Sellmann and the honorary district administrator Franz-Josef Thöne . Backhaus was confirmed in office in the 1999 and 2004 elections.

On October 16, 2009 Backhaus went into political retirement and handed over the district office to Friedhelm Spieker .

Awards

Hubertus Backhaus was awarded the Höxter County Medal of Honor in 2009.
