Erkeln is the city Brakel belonging town in Höxter district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Erkeln is a separate district of Brakel.

The village is located in the East Westphalian mountain country south of a larger curve of the Nethe river . The town of Rheder in the west, the town of Brakel in the north, the towns of Beller and Hembsen in the north-east and the Beverung district of Tietelsen on an adjacent ridge in the south are located around Erkeln . The district has 554 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2017).

history

The name Erkeln can be traced back to the middle of the 9th century . According to the Traditiones Corbeienses, a count from the Nethegau donated the income from the Ercluon Curia to the Corvey monastery in a document dated 840 .

On January 1, 1970, Erkeln was incorporated into the city of Brakel.

economy

Medium-sized metal processing offers most jobs in Erkeln. The village has a strong agriculture. In addition, some small craft businesses and two freight forwarders are located here.

Attractions

  • The Baroque style church of St. Peter in Chains dates from 1722.
  • The Erkeln local history museum.
  • The historic Nethebrücke, a vaulted bridge , was built in 1868, partially destroyed by a flood in 1869 and rebuilt. In 1984/85 it was widened and thoroughly renovated.

Club life

There is a very lively club life in Erkeln. The TUS Erkeln 1910, the minstrel and fanfare parade from 1947 eV, the fire fighting group Erkeln of the volunteer fire brigade of the city of Brakel, the KLJB, the St. Petrus Rifle Brotherhood from 1708 and the Erkeln brass band can be listed here.
