Schmechten is a 215-inhabitant district of Brakel in the district of Höxter , North Rhine-Westphalia .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 826 when it was donated to the Corvey Abbey. The Metbrunnen , north of the village, is a mineral spring that was already known around 973.
Before Schmechten was incorporated into Brakel on January 1, 1970, the place was an independent municipality in the Brakel district .
