The Hubertuskapelle (formerly: Schornkapelle ) in the Unterstein district of Schönau am Königssee is a place of worship of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Berchtesgaden .

history

Built in baroque style in Schönau , the Schorn Chapel in the immediate vicinity of the Schornweiher (today Schornbad ) was consecrated for the first time as a small Roman Catholic church under the reign of Prince Provost Michael Balthasar von Christalnigg in 1761 or 1762. However, this consecration was declared invalid for reasons that were no longer comprehensible, so that the chapel was consecrated again under Prince Provost Joseph Konrad von Schroffenberg-Mös in 1797 or on June 27, 1798 and declared a subsidiary church of the parish of St. Andreas in Berchtesgaden .

In the first half of the 19th century (1848), Count Ludwig Arco von Zinneberg (1773-1854) acquired the neighboring property with the Hubertus House . In order to prevent the Sunday worshipers from going to the chapel via his property as before, his son Maximilian von Arco-Zinneberg (1811–1885) had a new chapel built on the Zillnhäusl and in return in 1860 acquired the chapel . The new Graf-Arco-church was built in 1855-56 in neo-Gothic style of Saline architect Carl Lorentz and on July 6, 1860 by Archbishop Gregory of Scherr consecrated . The miraculous image with the altar was transferred from the chimney to the new church.

The Schorn chapel or Schorn church was apparently used shortly after its acquisition only as a painter's studio and at the end only as a junk room. In such a way it was misappropriated , it was desecrated by the Roman Catholic Church at the end of the 19th century and was therefore no longer considered a place of worship under its church law. In the 1930s, the chapel and the Hubertus House were finally sold to the Deutsche Reichsbahn social welfare organization and the baroque altar was sold to Wörth on the Isar in 1940 .

In the 1950s, the Protestant-Lutheran pastor of Gilardi , who was in office in Berchtesgaden , suggested that the chapel should be used again as a place of worship and that it should be made available to the Protestant parish in Schönau, which had grown to around 500 members through the acceptance of displaced people . Still owned by the social welfare organization of Deutsche Bahn , after extensive renovations and new furnishings with church inventory (including a small baroque altar owned by church painter Ludwig Keilhacker from Taufkirchen (Vils) ) on July 21, 1957, it became a Protestant church with the Name of Hubertus Chapel consecrated. In 1958 the chapel received a bell and in 1980 a small organ.

At the beginning of 2010 the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community of Berchtesgaden acquired the Hubertus Chapel and began necessary restoration work in which the Bahn-Sozialwerk, as the previous owner, had not invested. Supported by the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church and many sponsors, the restored chapel was reopened on Palm Sunday , April 17, 2011, in a festive consecration service with Dean Gottfried Stritar and handed over to the parish for use. The Hubertus chapel has since u. a. equipped with a modern altar and a new wooden shingle roof.

Responsible parish

In addition to its Christ Church as the main church in Berchtesgaden , the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community of Berchtesgaden is also responsible for the Evangelical Lutheran church buildings in Bischofswiesen , Ramsau near Berchtesgaden and Schönau am Königssee . The parish is part of the Traunstein deanery within the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria . In view of the small percentage of its community members within the mentioned communities of the Berchtesgadener Land district , it is in the minority situation of a diaspora .
