Hugo Cordshagen

Hugo Cordshagen (born August 20, 1921 in Güstrow ; † December 6, 1976 ) was a German archivist and historian .

Life

The eldest of the three sons of butcher Paul Cordshagen was called up for military service in Güstrow after graduating from high school in 1939. As a severely disabled person, he began studying history at the Universities of Freiburg i. B. (WS 1943/44, SS 1944), Göttingen (WS 1944/45) and Rostock (1946–1950). Here he graduated with a diploma in 1950 and received his doctorate in 1963 with a dissertation on the historical development of coastal protection . In 1950 he was trained as a scientific archivist in the first course at the Institute for Archival Science in Potsdam . He then came to the Mecklenburg State Main Archive in Schwerin in 1951 , was appointed acting director in 1953 and confirmed in office in 1955. For political reasons, Cordshagen was demoted to deputy director under Franz Höppner in 1964 , who at the time was still deputy chairman of the district council for culture. Cordshagen joined the NSDAP in 1939, after 1945 he remained independent. Cordshagen was married to the scientific archivist Christa Cordshagen, born in the Schwerin archive. Zitterstein (* December 21, 1919, † March 27, 2008).
