Hugo Greinz

Hugo Greinz (born June 3, 1873 in Innsbruck ; † January 24, 1946 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian narrator , columnist , newspaper editor and translator of Danish and Norwegian novels.

Life and writing

Born as the son of the building supervisor Anton Greinz and Agnes Theresia Jennewein in Innsbruck. His brothers Rudolf (1866–1942) and Hermann Greinz (1879–1938) were also active as authors.

Greinz studied law in Vienna , Graz and Innsbruck and entered civil service in 1897. Because of his work on German national papers, he had to leave his position in 1899 and became editor of the Monday Post in Linz. In 1901 he moved to Innsbruck and took the position of editor at the Tiroler Tagblatt . In 1902 he got involved with Die Zeit in Vienna . In 1915 he was called up for military service, where he worked as editor of the Belgrade News . In 1919, after half a year at the Salzburger Volksblatt , Greinz went to the editorial office of the Wiener Volkszeitung , where he worked until his retirement.

In 1898 Greinz was one of the founders of the Pan literature and art society in Linz, and in 1899 he and Heinrich von Schullern published the Musenalmanach Jung-Tirol . As editor of the literary monthly Der Kyffhäuser in Linz (1899–1902) he was the first to announce the program for Austrian provincial literature. Greinz spent his retirement in Salzburg.
