Hugo Klein (born January 2, 1873 in Szombathely , † March 23, 1931 in Vienna ) was an Austrian officer and painter .

Life

Hugo Klein attended the Theresian Military Academy from 1891 to 1894 , became a lieutenant in 1894, a first lieutenant in 1898 and a specialist teacher in the one-year volunteer school in 1899. From 1901 to 1906 he worked as a teacher for freehand drawing, performing geometry, pioneer service, fortification and terrain theory at the Mährisch Weißkirchen cavalry cadet school . In 1913 he became Rittmeister and taught at the Infantry Cadet School in Vienna.

Klein became a student of the battle and genre painter Wojciech Kossak in Krakow. Archduke Franz Ferdinand discovered his talent and sent him as an active officer to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , where he attended the Alois Delug master's school.

During the First World War , Klein was used in the campaigns in Galicia , Italy , Serbia and Albania . After the war he devoted himself to painting, worked primarily as a portrait painter in Sweden and Germany, and later also in Spain .
