Hugo Schmidfeld

Hugo Schmidfeld (born December 18, 1713 in St. Blasien , † 1785 in Berau ) was a German Benedictine , provost and historian .

Life

He entered the monastery of St. Blasien in December 1731 . He was ordained a priest on December 22nd, 1722. In 1742 he was appointed librarian. At a young age he published writings on pedagogy, philosophy and history that spurred his eighteen years older but shy brother Stanislaus Wülberz on . In 1781 he was appointed provost of the Berau Propstei as successor to Felix Achert and was thus also administrator of the Berau monastery . He ruled with a firm hand and minor infractions he had (with the then usual) Spanking punish.
