from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Reginbert von Seldenbüren , today Sellenbüren , also Reinbert von Seldenbüren († December 29, 964 in St. Blasien ) is the legendary founder of the Benedictine monastery of St. Blasien in the Black Forest .

History of the founding of the St. Blasien monastery in the Black Forest

The history of the founding of the St. Blasien Monastery is contradictory. As early as the 9th century there was a hermitage in the Black Forest , which was probably founded by a nobleman named Sigemar in 856 or 858 . It was known as the Cella Alba or Klause Albzell . Sigemar probably handed them over to the Rheinau monastery . The Cella Alba received the patronage of St. Blasien after relics of St. Blaise received from the Rheinau Monastery in Rome were transferred there.

It is possible that the St. Blasien monastery was temporarily uninhabited in the 10th century, which may have led to the founding story that the noble Reginbert von Seldenbüren was the founder of the St. Blasien monastery. After Reginbert went to the Black Forest as a hermit , he settled in the Cella Alba , made large donations to the monastery and became a Benedictine monk himself. Since then he has been considered a highly respected founder, benefactor and benefactor of the abbey.

Reginbert died in 964 and was buried in St. Blasien. His bones were reburied in the old monks' choir of St. Blasien Cathedral in 1927 . This had already happened in 1739 after the old minster was demolished and again in 1768 after the fire.
