Hugo von Ibelin (* around 1130, † around 1170 ) was Lord of Ibelin from 1150 , from 1152 also Lord of Ramla and Mirabel and an important baron in the Kingdom of Jerusalem .

He was the eldest son of Barisan von Ibelin and Helvis von Ramla . After the death of his father in 1150 his mother married Manasses von Hierges , the constable of Jerusalem , one of Queen Melisende's greatest supporters in her fight against her son Baldwin III. Manasses was banished in 1152 when Baldwin was able to victoriously end the dispute, which made Hugo the owner of the dominions of Ramla and Mirabel .

Hugo took part in the conquest of Askalon in 1153, was captured at the Battle of Banyas in 1157 , but was probably released the following year.

In 1159 he visited the Principality of Antioch , where he met the Byzantine Emperor Manuel I Comnenus .

In 1163 he married Agnes von Edessa , the former wife of King Amalrich I and mother of King Baldwin IV. It is possible that Agnes was betrothed or married to him before 1157, in any case she married Amalrich when Hugo was in captivity was. In order to become king, Amalrich had to divorce her in 1163.

Hugo took part in Amalrich's Egypt campaign in 1167, during which he was responsible for building a bridge over the Nile . When the Crusaders allied themselves with the Sultan against Shirkuh , General Nur ad-Dins , who was also fighting for control of Egypt, Hugo was sent to defend Cairo together with al-Kamil , the Sultan's son - Hugo was the first Crusader who saw the Sultan's palace. During the siege of Bilbeis , Hugo's life was saved by his uncle Philipp von Milly , Lord of Nablus , when he broke his leg while falling his horse.

Hugo died around 1170 on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela . He didn't have any children. In Ibelin, Ramla and Mirabel his brother Baldwin took over the rule.
