Hugo von Kleist-Retzow

Karl Friedrich Jürgen Hugo von Kleist-Retzow (born December 22, 1834 in Belgard , † December 26, 1909 in Groß-Tychow ) was a German manor owner and politician.

Life

Hugo von Kleist-Retzow was the second son of Karl Friedrich Ferdinand von Kleist-Retzow (1795–1872) and grandson of Hans Jürgen von Kleist-Retzow (1771–1844). His mother Ulrike Marianne Fehlhaber was his father's second wife. Kleist-Retzow received private lessons and attended grammar school in Duisburg . In 1855 he became second lieutenant in the 9th Landwehr Hussar Regiment, in 1856 he moved to the 21st Landwehr Regiment and later to the 5th Landwehr Hussar Regiment. In 1859 he took over Groß-Tychow from his father and inherited the Fideikommissherrschaft Möthlow in 1872 . In the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 he was captain and squadron chief in the 1st Reserve Hussar Regiment. In 1880 he took his leave of the military as a major and became a knight, later legal knight of the Order of St. John and in 1872 hereditary kitchen master for the Duchy of Western Pomerania. He was married to Caroline (Lina) von Ueckermann, with whom he had two sons and daughters. Three of the girls died in childhood.

From 1879 to 1892 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for the constituency Köslin 5 (Neustettin - Belgard) and from 1892 a member of the Prussian mansion on presentation of the Association of the Pomeranian von Kleist family. He was also a member of the Provincial Parliament of Pomerania . From 1893 to 1898 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the electoral district of Köslin 4 Belgard , Schivelbein , Dramburg and the German Conservative Party .
