Humphrey Davis

Humphrey Stewart Davis, Jr. (* 14. November 1949 , † 12. May 2007 ) was an American rhythm and blues - and jazz - saxophonist , composer , arranger and singer-songwriter .

Humphrey Davis, Jr. was the son of jazz bassist Humphrey Stewart Davis, Sr., who u. a. had played with Danny Barker , Papa Celestin and Albert French . His paternal grandmother, Beatrice Stewart Davis, was a concert pianist with the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra. From the age of eight he took clarinet lessons from Willie Humphrey ; at the age of 13 he switched to the saxophone. In the 1980s he led a band called The Las Vegas Connection ; with another band, Nightlife , he performed in New Orleans clubs. He also worked with Dr. John , Fats Domino , Aaron and Cyril Neville , Irma Thomas , BB King , David Ruffin, Latimore, Willie Tee & the Gators and Thomas Jefferson; he was also the musical director for King Floyd , Johnny Adams and Jean Knight . He released two albums under his own name, Dawn and A Little Jazz! A Little Blues !, A Little Blues! A little jazz! who move stylistically from rhythm and blues , contemporary jazz to traditional New Orleans jazz .
