The Hunt River is a right tributary of the Akillik River in western Alaska .

Its source is on the southern flank of the Baird Mountains , a mountain range of the Brooks range , in the north of the Kobuk Valley National Park near the border with the Noatak National Preserve . It flows south and flows together with the Akillik River 71 km northwest of Shungnak into the Akillik River, shortly before its confluence with the Kobuk River .

The river was named in 1885 by Lieutenant Stoney of the United States Navy , presumably after a member of his troop. As the name of the native people of Alaska for the river he recorded "Kon-gon-wik".
