Húsafell is a place in the Icelandic municipality of Borgarbyggð in western Iceland.
location
The place belonged to the former municipality Borgarfjarðarsveit until May 27, 2006 and is located approx. 25 km northwest of Reykholt in Hálsasveit, in the valley of the Hvítá .
history
In Húsafell there was an artist colony at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, for example the Icelandic painter Jóhannes Sveinsson Kjarval lived in the village. The painter Ásgrímur Jónsson also stayed on site for a while.
At the beginning of the 21st century, the sculptor Páll Guðmundsson is based in Húsafell , who creates original figures that can be viewed.
He descends from the pastor Snorri Björnsson , who worked here in the 18th century and was famous throughout the country for his physical strength, his sermons and his alleged ability to banish ghosts.

In addition to a larger colony of summer houses, there is a swimming pool, a golf course, a small shop with a restaurant and a campsite.
Attractions
Húsafell is of tourist interest due to the numerous natural wonders that are within reach, such as the Hraunfossar lava waterfalls of the Hvítá river and the Barnafoss .
The caves of the Hallmundarhraun lava field can be easily reached from here, such as Surtshellir . They are located on the Arnarvatnsheiði plateau , which has become more popular because of the many lakes, such as Arnarvatn Stóra , where you can fish trout.
Directly at Húsafell is one of the few forests in Iceland that has birch trees 4 meters high.
