Hyper Scape

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hyper Scape is a free-to-play - first-person shooter - Battle Royale game that by Ubisoft Montreal developed by Ubisoft for Microsoft Windows , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One was released. Together with Twitch , a function for “Hyper Scape” was developed, with which viewers can influence the video game live in the form of votes - with the aim of increasing interaction between streamers and audience in particular.

The open beta for Microsoft Windows was released on July 12, 2020. The game was released on August 11, 2020 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Location

The game takes place in Neo-Arcadia in 2054 , part of a metaverse created by the Prisma Dimensions company . Within this metaverse, players compete against each other in a sport known as Crown Rush . The setting has been compared to that of The Oasis from Ready Player One .

Gameplay

The main mode of the game shares elements with other "Battle Royale" games in which up to 100 players are dropped onto a map that, like the number of players, slowly shrinks over time as players try to eliminate the competition. However, the game differs in that once the last sector is closed and a crown appears, any player who is able to hold the crown for 60 seconds will automatically be declared the winner. Alternatively, the game ends if only one player or team remains.

As the game progresses, players will find both weapons and special skills known as "hacks" such as: B. transforming the player into a giant ball to bounce around with, or the ability to go invisible. Players can only have two weapons and hacks available at a time, with the latter being able to be swapped out during a round.

When a player is killed, he becomes an "echo". Echoes cannot kill enemies, but they are able to “ping” other members of their team to alert them of dangers or points of interest. When an enemy is killed, they drop a resuscitation point that allows a team to resuscitate fallen teammates.

During the entire game, the AI host can modify the game world, e.g. B. Uncover every enemy on the game's minimap and give the weapons unlimited ammunition or switch on a mode with low gravity . If viewers are watching the round on Twitch, they can also vote for events, which will help the AI to decide which modifications are to be switched on.

Like many games in the Battle Royale genre, Hyper Scape uses a tiered Battle Pass as a reward system for its players. Each season there is a Battle Pass with 100 levels, each with at least one reward. The technology test had a free battle pass with 10 levels, with 2 player skins at level 10. The open beta had a 30-level battle pass. Namely, the rewards include new champions as well as skins, weapon skins , melee weapons, deployment pods, emblems and sprays , none of which gives the player a competitive advantage. Some Battle Pass rewards require a Prime Gaming membership in order to receive these rewards.

In order to advance to a level on the Battle Pass, players must collect 200 experience points. These points can be reached in a number of ways; Completing daily and weekly challenges, performing well in games, and watching and interacting with Twitch streamers earn experience points. Ubisoft insists that playing the game is still the best way to achieve a rank. Players can only earn up to 400 experience points - or 2 levels - per day, while there is no limit to actual play.

development

The game, which took two years to develop, was based on the "game as a spectacle" idea that came about when the developers noticed that they, like gamers in general, were using live stream services like Twitch Games in saw them playing about as often, with director Christophe Guyot noting that they were no longer just answering the players, but also the audience. The team wanted to "bring streamers, players and viewers together in one thing".

Although the game was leaked by Ubisoft, it was officially revealed on July 2, 2020 when many streamers on Twitch suddenly started playing it and a trailer was released later in the day. The Verge compared this to both Apex Legends and Valorant , which were also announced this way.
